TERMS
-
The Puck:
- On a Craps table, there is a puck controlled by the dealer. This puck has the word "ON" written on one side and the word "OFF" written on another. When the puck is "ON", it will reside on a point number. When it is OFF, it will be set to the side.
-
Point Numbers:
- 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10.
-
Shooter:
- The person throwing the dice.
-
Seven Out:
- The shooter rolls a 7 while the puck is ON. This ends their time as the shooter. Most (but not all) bet zones lose when the shooter Sevens Out.
-
Establish a Point:
- While the puck is OFF, the shooter rolls one of the point numbers. This number becomes "The Point Number"
-
The Point Number:
- This number is established when the shooter rolls a point number while the puck is OFF. Rolling this number again will cause the puck to go OFF, all pass and come bets to win, and all don't bets to lose.
-
Field Bet
- A bet placed on the next roll being a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12
-
Come Bet
- A bet placed after the point has been established that the shooter will roll the point before rolling a 7
-
Don't Come Bet
- The opposite position of the Come Bet
-
Don't pass line Bet
- A bet that the shooter will not make the point before rolling a 7
-
Odds Bet
- An additional bet that can be placed after the point has been established. The payout is based on the odds of the shooter rolling the point before rolling a 7
-
Pass Line Bet
- A bet that the shooter will roll a 7 or 11 on the come out roll, or that they will roll the point before rolling a 7
HOW
- Craps is played in rounds, in every round there is a shooter
- During the round, the game rotates through three main phases continually until the shooter rolls certain numbers to end the round.
- Phase 1 - Bet: All players bet what they think the outcome of the next roll will be. This is the only time the players can place bets. Where they can place bets depends on the puck state.
-
Phase 2 - Shoot: Shooter rolls the dice, they do this by throwing the two dice down the table, hitting the wall at the end of the table. This lasts from the time the shooter is presented the dice, until they stop rolling.
- The first roll in a round is known as the “come out roll”, and the outcome of this roll matters. Both dice are counted up together and if a point number is rolled this establishes the point for that round.
- The dealer will move the puck to the ON Position.
- The point is ANY number that is 4,5,6,8,9 and 10.
- If no point is established, the puck stays OFF until a point is rolled.
- The rules for what zones can and cannot be bet on, and what numbers zones win and lose on change depending on whether the puck is ON or OFF.
- Eg: If the puck is OFF, passline bets lose on a 2, 3 or 12, and win on a 7 or 11. When the puck is ON, passline bets win when the point number is rolled.
- When the puck is ON and the shooter rolls the point number, the puck will be returned to the OFF position. The shooter has “won the point” and will continue to roll, returning the game to a “come out” state.
- Phase 3 - Payout: This is when all winning and losing bets are processed. Bets will transfer as needed (details on this is the come and don’t come section). This phase lasts from the time the dice stops rolling until the last chip has finished moving.
- After this the game returns to the bet phase, and at this stage some actions happen based on the roll.
- Puck going “ON” - If it was the come out roll that was mentioned (where the puck was previously OFF), rolling 4,5,6,8,9, or 10 will establish the point. The puck then turns “ON” and moves to the point.
- Puck goes “OFF” - If it was already on, a 7 or the point number will make the go off and move to the don't come
- Shooter Changes - If the puck was on, rolling a 7, known as sevening out, ends the round. This changes the shooter on top of turning the puck off and the round starts again.
